He is one of the founders of tribo-fatigue. Dr. Sci. Tech. (Doctor in Engineering 1987), Professor (1988). Honored Scientist of Belarus (1998). Graduated from the Leningrad Mining Institute (1958). Since 1976 worked in Mogilev Institute of Technology (was the head of the department since 1978). Since 1980 works Belarusian State University of Transport (during 1989-1999 was the head of the department). Professor Sosnovskiy has research works in construction mechanics, resistance of materials, fatigue fracture mechanics, theoretical foundations of tribo-fatigue. Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in 1997.

TRIBO-FATIGUE (from Greek tribos, i.e. friction + English fatigue) is scientific and technical discipline that studies wear-fatigue damage (WFD) and destruction of active systems. Based on mechanisms of fatigue fracture, tribotechnics, theory of reliability of mech. systems, material science etc. Used to control the processes of WFD to ensure optimal life of an active system.
Active system in tribo-fatigue is a system that perceives and retransmits cyclic and in which the process of friction is simultaneously realized in any manifestation (sliding, rolling, impact etc.). During operation of these systems complex WFD appear. Main types of them are mechano-sliding fatigue, mechano-rolling, mechano-erosion, mechano-corrosion and fretting fatigue. According to tribo-fatigue transforming the conditions of friction and (or) conditions of cyclic loading properly can effectively manage the kinetics of WFD processes. Status of the active system in operation at any time is estimated by integral parameter on which the management of these processes is based. Calculation of workability of active systems is made according to WFD criteria. Statistical model of a deformable solid with a dangerous volume i.e. finite region of the critical stress in it is used to assess the carrying capacity, reliability and life of objects.
In Belarus the research on tribo-fatigue is carried out by Scientific and Production Group "Tribo-Fatigue" and Belarusian State University of Transport (Gomel), Institute of Machines Mechanics of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Production Group "Gomselmash" (L.A. Sosnovskiy, M.S. Vysotsky, A.V. Bogdanovich, V.A. Shurinov, G.P. Ozhygar, V.A. Zhmailik, O.M. Yelovoy et al.). Significant contribution to the formation and development of tribo-fatigue is also made by Russian (K.V. Frolov, N.A. Makhutov), Ukrainian (V.T. Troshchenko) et al. scientists.
