  SI-SERIES MACHINES FOR WEAR-FATIGUE TESTS

The progress of Tribology has motivated the designing and development of a special class of testing equipment – machines for friction and wear tests.

The progress of Fatigue Fracture Mechanics has also motivated the development of a special class of testing equipment – machines for fatigue tests.

The progress of Tribo-Fatigue has motivated the development of a new class of testing equipment – machines for wear-fatigue tests of materials and models of active systems.

The S&P Group TRIBOFATIGUE in collaboration with the leading institutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences (the Institute of Machines Sciences named after A.A. Blagonravov), the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (the Institute of Machines Mechanics), the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (the Institute for Problems of Strength of Materials) and also with Production Group «GOMSELMASH» and its Special Head Designing Bureau (GSKB PG GOMSELMASH) has created SI-series machines of the modular desk-top type to suit various demands. For example, SI-01 machine serves for mechano-sliding fatigue tests, SI-02 serves for mechano-rolling fatigue tests. SI-03 is an integrated machine for mechano-sliding and mechano-rolling fatigue tests. Also, SI-03-M machine is used for the tests of the models of various gearings. All these machines are capable to perform the tests for friction under sliding and rolling, for mechanical and fretting fatique.

INTERSTATE STANDARD GOST 30638-99 / «TRIBO-FATIGUE. TERMS AND DEFINITIONS»:

Wear-fatigue test machine the machine used for fastening an active system or its model, exposing the system to the complex effect of alternative loads and friction processes under prescribed conditions and modes, providing the required test durability, measuring and recording its resistance characteristics to wear-fatigue damage.

Wear-fatigue tests the tests used to determine quantitative characteristics of resistance to wear-fatigue damage.

STANDARDS:

GOST 30755-2001. Tribo-Fatigue. Wear-Fatigue Test Machines. General Technical Requirements. – 8 pages.

GOST 30754-2001. Tribo-Fatigue. Wear-Fatigue Test Methods. Rolling-Mechanical Fatigue Tests. – 32 pages.

STB 1233-2000. Tribo-Fatigue. Wear-Fatigue Test Methods. Accelerated Mechano-Rolling Fatigue Tests. – 8 рages.

The SI-series machines are multipurpose and they were designed based on the block-modular principle making them highly economical and compara-tively cheap. Various tests are possible by replacing sets of modules.

The modular principle of their design allows a single machine to be used to execute not only traditional (and standard) test methods but also to perform original studies of models of active systems (such as wheel/rail; shaft/bushing and others).

SI-series machines have no mechanical transmissions. This allows to avoid power losses and to increase test accuracy significantly.

SI-series machines are provided with an information-controlling system based on PC offering high accuracy of control, measurement and registration of test parameters such as contact and bending loading, frequency of revolution, linear wear (or displacement of axles), temperature in the contact zone, vibroparameters, friction torque, number of cycles of loading, etc.

The contact and bending loading is adjustable within a broad range. It allows metal-to-metal, metal-to-polymer and polymer-to-polymer models of active systems to be successfully tested.

10 INVENTIONS WERE INCORPORATED

INTO DESIGNING SI-SERIES MACHINES

All technical characteristics of the machines satisfy the requirements of Interstate Standard 30755-2001 «Tribo-Fatigue. Machines for Wear-Fatigue Tests. General Technical Requirements».

Upon a client’s demand the SI-series machines can be equipped with devices to perform tests:

in vacuum and various fluids;

at low and high temperatures;

under powerful laser radiation;

under the effect of the flow of solid particles, in biphasic medium etc.

SI-SERIES MACHINES FOR SCIENCE, PRODUCTION AND EDUCATION

Si-series machines are successfully used in scientific institutions, industrial enterprises and universities

The Tribo-Fatigue Laborarory is subject both to the Institute of Machines Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and to the Special Head Bureau of Designing of Grain and Fodder Harvesters. Since 1995 this Laboratory works in the testing center of designing enterprise Gomel. It is equipped with all modifications of SI-series machines for wear-fatigue

tests of materials and the models of active systems.

In 1998 the Laboratory for Wear-Fatigue Tests, which was provided with 4 SI-03-M machines, was organized within PG "GOMSELMASH".

Since 1997 the Laboratory № 6 (Tribo-Fatigue), which is provided with fully equipped Sl-03 machine, functions in the Institute of Machines Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Special (not automatic) cheap and easy to operate modifications of machines for sliding fatigue and rolling mechanical fatigue tests were designed for fulfilling laboratory assignments within the course "The Fundamentals of Tribo-Fatigue" included in the curriculum of the Belarusian Transport University (Gomel). These machines can also be used for fulfilling laboratory assignments within such disciplines as the Resistance of Materials, Details of Machines, Evaluation and Design of Machines and Equipment, Fundamentals of Tribology (friction and wear in machines) etc.
